“You Need Two Wings to Fly” is a figurative ceramic sculpture that reflects on human resilience, vulnerability, and the necessity of inner balance. A crouching human figure, poised between stillness and movement, is equipped with two metal wings, not as a symbol of heroism, but as a quiet reminder of wholeness.
The work was born from an initial idea of strength through limitation — the belief that one can succeed, endure, and even “fly” with only one wing. Yet during the creation process, a physical injury experienced by the artist transformed the meaning of the sculpture. The lived experience of temporary incapacity revealed a deeper truth: survival is possible with one wing, but true flight requires two.
In this sculpture, the wings become a metaphor for balance — between effort and care, willpower and inner resource, ambition and embodied presence. Only when both wings are present does flight become natural, sustainable, and inspired rather than forced.
The figure’s grounded posture contrasts with the promise of ascent, capturing the moment just before transformation — when strength is no longer born from struggle, but from restored integrity.
Collection SEARCH — a completed inner journey This sculpture belongs to SEARCH, a completed and unrepeated collection created between 2016 and 2022 — a formative period of Elisaveta Sivas’ artistic and spiritual evolution.
Works from this series explore themes of identity, endurance, love, limitation, and self-inquiry. Each sculpture acts as a philosophical marker on the path from fragmentation toward inner unity.
As the SEARCH period has now come to a close, every artwork from this collection exists as a singular artifact of the artist’s personal transformation and will never be recreated or continued. This gives the sculpture both conceptual and historical value within the artist’s oeuvre.
